UPDATE (23rd January 2017):
Zwift Volcano is LIVE!! iOS update available.
UPDATE (9th January 2017) :
Zwift CEO Eric Min posted a ride to Strava here that includes the Volcano Route. This teaser means that hopefully we should see the update within the next week or so (unconfirmed).
UPDATE (22nd December 2016) :
Jon Mayfield of Zwift has just confirmed in Facebook post to the Zwift Riders group that the volcano expansion is nearly ready, but will NOT go-live in 2016 due to the holiday break. There is however, an update going live for PC/Mac users with some bug fixes.
Yesterday, GCNs behind the scenes at Zwift HQ video (see below) gave us a preview of the likely next Zwift course expansion. Bring on the Zwift Volcano! The teaser reveal in GCNs video means this new expansion is likely with the next couple of weeks. The last expansion to Watopia was in March 2016 when Zwift added the Mountain Pass which included a 9.4km KOM.
It’s been a busy time for those at Zwift with the release of Zwift for iOS earlier this month. The iOS version undoubtedly brought an influx of new users to the platform. It also included the surprise bonus of Zwift running. This iOS version is an important step that goes some way to making the platform more accessible to the less tech-savvy. Wannabe riders/runners will still need to navigate the myriad of trainers and ANT+/Bluetooth sensors to get started.
An e-mail from Zwift advising of server maintenance this Monday (19th December) gave a glimmer of hope that the new course expansion could drop this week. This maintenance work is more likely platform expansion to cater for the new users that iOS has delivered and/or updates to support the new expansion when it does finally go live. The question everyone wants to know is when will we get to ride the volcano? With the holiday period fast approaching, will Zwift drop the expansion before the end of 2016? Let’s hope so!
Ride ON !
